The Alarm Journal is a historical record of every alarm event in your CarefreeSCADA system. Where the main Alarms page shows what is currently active right now, the Alarm Journal shows what happened in the past — every time an alarm became active, when it cleared, and whether it was acknowledged and by whom.
The Alarm Journal is an essential tool for reviewing system performance, investigating incidents, and demonstrating compliance.

## How to Access the Alarm Journal
1. From the left sidebar, click **Analytics**.
2. Click **Alarm Journal**.
---
## What the Alarm Journal Shows
The journal displays a table showing the last 24 hours by default. Each row is one alarm event. The columns are:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| **Event Time** | Date and time the alarm event occurred (sortable) |
| **Event State** | The state of the alarm at that moment (Active, Acknowledged, or Clear) |
| **Priority** | Alarm priority: Low, Medium, High, or Critical |
| **Display Path** | The Site the alarm came from (e.g., "Well #1") |
| **Label** | The name of the alarm (e.g., "Well Pump") |
| **Event Value** | The tag value at the time of the event |
| **Ack User** | Username of who acknowledged the alarm (blank if not yet acknowledged) |
### Alarm State Color Coding
Rows in the Alarm Journal are color-coded to make scanning easy:
- **Red** — Active / Unacknowledged (most urgent, needs attention)
- **Yellow/Tan** — Acknowledged (alarm was noticed and confirmed)
- **Blue/Gray** — Cleared (condition has resolved)

## Filtering the Journal
The journal starts with 7 default filters active: Active, Acknowledged, Cleared, and all four priorities (Low, Medium, High, Critical).
To adjust filters:
1. Click the **funnel (filter) icon** in the top right of the journal header.
2. Toggle the states and priorities you want to include.
3. Filters appear as removable chips along the top of the table — click **×** on any chip to remove it, or **Remove All** to clear all filters.
To search by alarm name or path, use the **search box** at the top left of the journal.
To sort by a column, click the column header. Columns marked with up/down arrows support sorting.
---
## Adjusting the Time Window
The journal defaults to **Last 24 hours**. To change the time window:
1. Click the **clock icon** or the time range label at the top of the journal.
2. Select a preset (Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, etc.) or set a custom date/time range.
---
## Rows Per Page
Use the **rows per page** dropdown at the bottom left (options: 5, 10, 25, 50, 100) to control how many events appear per page. Use the pagination controls at the bottom right to navigate between pages.
