CarefreeSCADA provides several ways to customize how your embedded site trends look and what data they display. This page walks through the Pens, Axes, and Plots settings available in the trend settings panel.
**Terminology:**
- **Pen** — a single data series line on the trend
- **Axis** — the value scale along the side of the trend
- **Plot** — a stacked section of the trend that groups one or more pens
For a free-form trend builder across multiple sites, see [[Tag Historian]].
1. Click the **Settings** gear icon in the top right corner of the trend display.

2. To view your currently trending items, click **Pens**.

3. To modify a specific pen, click the pencil icon next to its name.

4. **Changing the Pen Name** — Change the display name for this pen. Many other pen-specific options are also available here.

5. **Adjusting the Axis** — Select which axis this pen uses for its scale. To create additional axes, use the **Axes** tab.

6. **Changing the Plot** — Assign this pen to a plot section. Plot #0 appears at the top, Plot #1 below it, and so on. To create new plots, use the **Plots** tab.

7. **Changing the Pen Color** — Pick any color to represent this pen's data. Copy the 6-character hex code shown in the bottom right to apply the same color to other states in the pen's configuration.

8. **Display Type and Interpolation** — Choose how the pen is drawn on the trend. **Line** is the most common choice. The interpolation setting controls how the chart connects values between the stored 30-second data points.

9. When done with pen settings, click **Done**.

10. **Axis Control** — Click the **Axes** tab to modify existing axes or create new ones. New axes are unlabeled with Auto Range by default. Click the pencil icon next to an axis to edit it.

11. **Adjusting Axis Range** — Uncheck **Auto Range** to set a fixed minimum and maximum scale. For example, setting Min to 0 and Max to 20 on a tank level axis shows the pen's position relative to the tank's full capacity, rather than zooming in on recent variation.

12. When done with axis settings, click **Done**.

13. **Plot Configuration** — Plots let you stack different data types vertically. For example, pump run statuses (0/1) and reservoir levels can be placed in separate plots so they don't overlap. Each plot's size is determined by its relative weight — a higher number gives it more vertical space.

14. Click the pencil icon to edit a plot.

15. Set the desired relative weight for the plot and click **Done**.

16. When all changes are complete, click **Save Trend**.
